Craig's Story

Craig Threshie, Master Designer and Master Craftsman

Craig's Story 01 - JOTRCraig Threshie has had a passion for designing and crafting with natural stone, pearls and metals since he was a boy. His love of working with precious opal has never wavered and he is now creating exquisite freeform opal sculptural carvings to integrate into much of his jewelry design. Craig has always viewed the design and craft of fine jewelry creation as a holistic process beginning with a vision that is then brought to fruition through a complete melding of the skills of master craftsman and master designer. In his work, the design evolves from his love and fascination of the inherent natural beauty, character and quality of the materials, and for Jewels of the Reef, with an inspiration gained through his adventures in the tropics.

Craig produces the majority of his precious metal settings through the art of lost wax sculpting and casting. This artistic process allows him the most flexibility, creativity and ability to create the quality appropriate for his jewelry and sculpture.

Architecture and landscape architecture has also been a major outlet for Craig’s creativity and artistry for the past three and a half decades and he remains in practice as a celebrated, award winning California architect.

Craig's Story 02 - JOTREnvironmental awareness and stewardship has always been a strong element in Craig’s life. He has served as a chairman of his local Sierra Club group and has supported numerous environmental organizations throughout his life. Today, through sales from Jewels of the Reef, he continues to support environmental non profits in their important work to preserve the tropical reef environments of the world and their cultures.

Community is also a strong element in Craig’s life, as he has served his beloved town of Truckee as mayor, council member and planning commissioner, and Craig has been active in Rotary and has served on many, many committees and benefited many organizations in the community throughout the years

Adventure has always been a passion for Craig and sailing is his preferred vehicle to that exploration of the tropical environs of the world. His artwork is heavily influenced by his tropical explorations and his love of all things nautical, and of course this is what has led to his creation of Jewels of the Reef. You will be able to recognize this influence both subtly and boldly throughout this web site as it continues to evolve. Craig can be reached at his studio by email or by phone at 866-966-5687 or locally at 530-550-5252.
